CMU or Mit

I know they both have the best robotics program in the US but which do you prefer?

Look up the course catalogs for both universities. You'll see that CMU has *much* more to offer in robotics

What about Caltech (mortal enemy of MIT)?  All of NASA's robotic space probes and rovers were made by JPL/Caltech (they really pride themselves on that).  They have also developed some very advanced AI systems, from what I've heard...

In fact, I wonder if any UC campus (or any public university) has a robotics program just as good as the others (they probably do).

Caltech, JPL, and MIT don't really offer much to undergrads. Typically you have to be a grad student or phD student before they let you take any interesting robotics classes.

CMU lets you take at least ~30 different robotics classes as an undergrad, pays for your robotics research, and makes it easy to work in robotics labs. And thats just for undergrads!

admin yeah a computer project I'm involved with took us to the etc up at carnegie mellon over the summer and I was amazed Quasy.. Well until I found out it was in puppeter mode.
But i download some of the robotics course lectures from mit for undergrad and there all real simple... I didnt know what CMU offered for undergrad nor after visiting the etc did i think there were many roboticist and mainly computer animation people focused on stuff and also we were placed in an older dorm house the mudge house so i didn't like it much ....
but then i realized all they had shown us was the undergrad section....
and now i found this website and it sounds like you liked cmu... only thing is it is a hard school to get into i get really good grades so i think i have chance plus i hear early involvement in technology helps you out.....


Also I;m going to make  new post but I'm trying to find a summer program were you build robot from scratch but all I can find is something to do with vex or lego mindstorms any help there?

I'm obviously biased towards CMU because I am a student there, but CMU has among other things, an undergraduate minor in robotics, a 5th-year masters program in robotics, and alot of opportunities for undergrads.  I got a job work on a real robot my freshmen year.

Most of the grad level courses are offered to undergrads, but preference given to higher year students if there aren't enough seats in the class. For example, the intro to robotics class usually gets ~300 people signing up for the class, but they only accept less than 100 students - I managed to get lucky and take the class as a sophomore.

As an undergrad, you can join most of these labs (just promise to be free labor):

During the summer, if you have the skills, they'll pay you or give you a grant.

They have like 100 something members and tons of free equipment/computers/parts for you to use.

Also you should look at my university, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) - we have the first and only Robotics Engineering Undergraduate program in the country. It's a very intensive and incredible program.

I got a couple years but i think im going to apply to both just incase i dont get into cmu and strangely get into mit
but i think in the end im going to go to cmu
i think i can get in cmu i basically get all as im in the band im on the first robotics team i was in fll for four years and now i mentor a team.... and now im working on building robots from scratch by myself....
